CHAPTER 1Why 80% of Owners Give Up Too Soon

Most owners follow up once, maybe twice. Then they call it dead and move on to the next lead.

That's why 80 percent of sales never close.

Here's the actual data. Marketing Donut studied thousands of small businesses. 44 percent of salespeople give up after ONE follow-up. Another 22 percent quit after the second. By the third touch, 90 percent of the field has walked away from the lead.

But 80 percent of closed sales require 5 to 12 touches.

Do the math. The vast majority of your competitors are quitting exactly when the sale becomes possible. Your competitor is you, and you're doing the same thing.

The dollar cost

Assume you have 50 unclosed leads sitting in your pipeline right now. Your average sale is $650.

If you follow up once and stop, you'll close maybe 5 of them. $3,250 in revenue.

If you follow up 5 times over 30 days on a structured cadence, you'll close 10 to 15 of them. $6,500 to $9,750 in revenue. Same leads. Just persistence.

That's an extra $3,000 to $6,000 a month in your pipeline. $36,000 to $72,000 a year. Compounding.

The Recovered Revenue Formula
RECOVERED REVENUE
=
Unclosed Leads × Lift From 1 Touch to 5 × Avg Sale

You didn't lose the sale because they didn't want it. You lost the sale because you stopped calling.

What most owners try

Most owners try to fix this by "following up more."

That's not a system. That's a resolution.

Every Monday you say you'll be better about follow-up. By Wednesday you're back to reacting to whoever texts you first. By Friday you've forgotten which leads you were supposed to chase.

The fix is not caring more. The fix is having a cadence that runs itself and tells you exactly what to send, to who, when, without you thinking about it.

That's what this kit builds.

CHAPTER 2The 5-Touch Cadence

The cadence has five touches. Spread over 30 days. Every unclosed lead goes through the exact same sequence. Skip a touch, and you leak.

T1THANKday 0
T2VALUEday 2
T3ASKday 7
T4PROOFday 14
T5CLOSEday 30
THE 5-TOUCH CADENCE

Touch 1 (Day 0): Same-day appreciation. Within 2 hours of the conversation. Thank them. Confirm the next step. Nothing else.

Touch 2 (Day 2): Value drop. Send one specific thing that helps them, whether they buy or not.

Touch 3 (Day 7): Objection cut. Address the ONE reason they haven't said yes yet. Don't guess, ask.

Touch 4 (Day 14): Social proof. Send them a story of someone just like them who bought and got results.

Touch 5 (Day 30): Close-or-close. Ask directly. Yes, no, or "not right now." No maybes.

Five touches. Thirty days. Same order, every time.

That's the cadence.

CHAPTER 3The Install (This Weekend)

This is a Saturday morning project. Read Saturday. Set up Sunday. First cadence starts Monday.

You will need:

Step 1: Define what "unclosed lead" means

An unclosed lead is: someone you had a conversation with (call, in-person, form-fill, DM) who did NOT buy AND did NOT explicitly say no.

If they said "not interested," they're out. Don't chase people who said no.

If they said "maybe later," "I need to think about it," "let me talk to my wife," "I'm still shopping around," or ghosted after showing interest, they're IN.

Step 2: Tag every unclosed lead

Create a tag or list in your CRM called cadence-active.

Every time a sales conversation ends without a signed agreement, apply this tag. That's the trigger. The 5-Touch Cadence fires the moment that tag lands on a contact.

Step 3: Load the 5 messages

You get all 5 messages in the Templates file. Copy them into your CRM's automation tool. Do not rewrite them. Just fill in the bracketed parts.

Step 4: Set the timing rules

Step 5: Set the STOP rules

The cadence must have exits. Otherwise you'll spam past customers and end up in someone's spam folder.

Don't skip the exit rules. Follow-up without exits becomes harassment.

That's the install.

CHAPTER 4The 5 Messages (Copy Verbatim)

Every message. Ready to paste. Change the bracketed parts. Don't change the structure.

TOUCH 1 · SAME-DAY APPRECIATION (send 2 hours after)
Hey [FIRST NAME], great talking today. Quick recap of what I heard: you're looking to [WHAT THEY WANT] and the biggest thing on your mind is [THE ONE THING THEY WORRIED ABOUT]. I'll do the [NEXT STEP AGREED ON] and get back to you by [DATE]. Text me any time before then if anything comes up. - [YOUR NAME]

Why this works: it proves you were listening (you named their concern), confirms the next step, and gives them permission to reach out without pressure.

TOUCH 2 · VALUE DROP (send Day 2)
Hey [FIRST NAME], thought this might help you decide. [LINK TO A SPECIFIC THING]. [ONE-LINE WHY IT MATTERS]. No response needed. Just wanted you to have it.

Why this works: you deliver value with no ask. Rare. Signals you're playing the long game. The "no response needed" removes the awkwardness of not replying.

TOUCH 3 · OBJECTION CUT (send Day 7)
Hey [FIRST NAME], want to be respectful of your time so I'll be direct. I don't want to keep guessing what's holding this up. Is it [MOST COMMON OBJECTION #1], [MOST COMMON OBJECTION #2], or something I haven't thought of? Whichever it is, I'd rather hear it than not. Even a one-word answer works.

Why this works: it names the elephant. You demonstrate confidence by asking directly. Nine times out of ten, the objection is not what you thought.

TOUCH 4 · SOCIAL PROOF (send Day 14)
Hey [FIRST NAME], I know you were on the fence about [THEIR ORIGINAL CONCERN]. Sharing this because it reminded me of you: [CUSTOMER STORY, ONE PARAGRAPH]. Now they [SPECIFIC RESULT]. If you want the details on how we got them there, happy to walk you through it.

Why this works: it's not you saying your work is good. It's someone like them saying it. Specificity is what makes it land.

TOUCH 5 · CLOSE-OR-CLOSE (send Day 30)
Hey [FIRST NAME], last touch on this so you don't hear from me forever if the timing isn't right. Three options: 1. YES: text back and we'll book it in this week 2. NOT YET: I'll check in every 90 days, no pressure 3. NO: text NO and I'll wipe the file, no hard feelings Whichever it is, I'll respect it.

Why this works: it gives them permission to say no. It also gives them permission to say "not yet" without ghosting. Most people pick option 2 or 3. And the 5-10 percent who pick option 1 are pure recovered revenue.

Objection Handlers (Bonus)

When they reply mid-cadence, use these:

"JUST THINKING ABOUT IT"
Totally fair. What's the one thing you're most unsure about? I'd rather help you get clear on that than pitch you again.
"NEED TO TALK TO MY SPOUSE / PARTNER"
Smart. Would it help if I put together a one-page summary you can share with them? Or I could join a 10-min call with both of you so nobody has to repeat everything.
"CAN'T AFFORD IT RIGHT NOW"
Appreciate the honesty. Two options: (1) I've got a lighter version that might fit. (2) I can put you on a 90-day check-in and touch base when things line up. Which fits?

CHAPTER 5Tracking What Matters

You track two numbers.

Reply rate: what percentage of leads reply to any touch in the cadence.
Close rate: what percentage of leads in the cadence eventually book or buy.

Cadence Reply Rate
>25%
Green
10-25%
!
Amber
<10%
×
Red

Reply rate under 10 percent means one of two things: your messages sound like spam, or your leads were unqualified. Rewrite the messages first (order: Touch 3, then Touch 1, then Touch 5). If reply rate still stinks after 60 leads, look at lead source quality.

Close rate should sit at 10 to 20 percent of everyone who enters the cadence. That's 10-20 sales you would have lost otherwise, per 100 unclosed leads.

What "working" looks like

If you enter 20 leads a month into the cadence, that's 2 to 4 recovered sales per month. At $650 average, that's $1,300 to $2,600 in monthly revenue you would have left on the table.

Common Mistakes

Mistake 1: Making Touch 1 a sales pitch. Touch 1 is thank-you-and-confirm. Save the pitch for Touch 3.

Mistake 2: Skipping Touch 2 because "I have nothing to send." You always have something. The point is you touched.

Mistake 3: Rewriting Touch 3 to be softer. It works BECAUSE it's direct. Ask the actual question.

Mistake 4: Sending all 5 touches by email. Mix channels. Touch 3 and Touch 5 always text.

Mistake 5: Not having exit rules. Cadence without exits = spam.

The One Thing To Do Today

Before you close this file, do this ONE thing:

Open your CRM (or a Google Sheet). Find your 5 most recent unclosed leads. Tag them cadence-active. Then send Touch 1 to each of them right now, manually.

You'll have your first 5 leads in the cadence before dinner. Automation can wait until Sunday. The first Touch 1 needs to happen today, because the calendar clock starts NOW.

Go do it. Come back for the rest.
